It was said at the time that he started the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64 on purpose (though that is debated). The fire is reported to have burned for over a week and destroyed or badly damaged much of the city.

The Roman historian Suetonius wrote that Nero started the fire because he wanted the space to build his Golden House, a massive palace that included a 30-meter-tall statue of himself called the Colossus of Nero. He also killed several members of his own family, including his own mother. Which is just rUdE.
