Tom hurtled out of the doctor’s surgery and followed Digby to a busy street of houses. A child waved to him from a window.
Out of the corner of his eye, Tom spotted a flash of Digby’s tail.

Simple houses were made out of mud bricks and had small, high windows with no glass in them. Roofs were made with clay tiles. Many families had pet dogs to guard the house.
