Reason To Sing
I can’t wait to see what he says!
The Williamsons have two boys and one of them is also
a musician. Rex is just a little bit younger than me (and very
cute!) and plays the drums. We get along really well. His
parents are a very generous couple. They always invite the
youth group to pool parties at their gorgeous country estate
just outside of Calgary. Their house is a mansion! They have
long hallways of pure white carpet, stretching endlessly. It’s
the plushest rug my feet have ever walked on. In their living
room there are floor-to-ceiling picture windows that overlook
the manicured grounds and beyond, to the lush foothills. My
favourite feature is a white grand piano and tall golden spheres.
They are beautiful pieces of art and probably worth a lot of
money. They have maids and grounds-people and tennis courts.
It’s just perfectly awesome.
It’s so much easier to forget about the devastating reality of
my home life when I’m at this unreal paradise in the country.
Or with the youth group having fun. Or at the church making
music. But then I must return home and face the truth of my
mother’s life. Our family’s life.
What if she doesn’t have much more time? What if she
dies before I am even an adult? What will Vian and I ever do
without our mother?
I hate cancer.
