Reason To Sing
Chapter Seventeen
The Conversion
“If this is you, if this is how you really feel, if this is where you’re
at tonight, then you need to come down here and ask Jesus to come
into your heart. Don’t waste any more time. If He is speaking to
your heart then don’t wait until tomorrow. Tonight’s the night. If
you can feel His presence and know that He’s speaking to you, then
you need to get up out of your seat and come down here tonight,
right now, and give your life to Jesus. He’s waiting for you. He is
waiting to forgive you and make you new. Tomorrow could be too
late. Now is the time. Don’t wait. Please don’t wait. Your life could
end tonight. Don’t wait. Come on down. There are people here just
waiting to pray with you. Don’t waste this opportunity.”
The young youth pastor is pleading with us. He’s pleading
with me. I can feel his voice penetrating my heart. I can feel it.
Right here in my chest.
The band members, with heads turned upwards, play with
frenzied abandonment. With eyes closed they lift their faces
to heaven. Familiar guitar riffs and sweet old melodies fill this
hallowed church sanctuary. These songs are soothing my soul
and I can feel my heart stirring in a new and beautiful way.
There is something in the air. The electricity is tangible.
Every word the pastor speaks feels like it is meant only for
me. I need a friend; I need a father and I need to be loved. I need
to know someone is here for me when I feel alone and when
my world is caving in, threatening to smother me completely.
How much longer am I going to have a mother? My father is
dead and Mommy is dying. This is my life.
