Chapter Twenty-Eight
I were determined, innovative and we worked hard. We made
sacrifices too. We spent our money on flashy cowboy boots and
slick promotional materials instead of household furniture and
motel rooms.
We did our homework and studied the business and
Billboard charts. We got to know “who was who” and we got
good at pressing the flesh at industry events and parties. We
listened to and learned about every country music artist on the
airwaves. If there was even a fragment of worthy (or unworthy)
news involving my career, we ran with it. We used every
single opportunity to send press releases to radio and record
companies. We started making regular trips down to Nashville.
We kept knocking on doors at all the record companies and
publishing houses.
We were on a mission. We were going to make me a star.
