Reason To Sing

There isn’t any question whether Gord and I believe in
God. We do. So now what? Where do we go, what do we
do? What does this all mean? How do we take the next step?
We’re anxious to find out and so we begin to start looking for
a church. There is one just up the street, so I suggest we begin
          there.
As soon as we settle into the hard pews of St Clair Catholic
Parrish, we discover we are by far the youngest people here. I
mean seriously, it’s just old people and their even older parents!
Neither one of us has ever really been exposed to the Catholic
church but we both sense immediately that this is not where
          we belong.
We give up. But only until we move into our own place.
          Yes. Our own place. Together!
Our friends Joe and Ruth have just relocated to my old
stomping grounds at Avenue Road and Lawrence, the very
same place where Hudson and I had owned a house for many
years. Gord and I both love the area, so we ask our friends to
give us a call if they get any leads. They call us the very next day!
          Their neighbours are moving out.
We visit the little bungalow and are greeted by a nice couple
who are happy to show us around. They pass our information
on to their landlord and the deal is sealed in no time.
Gord turns into a big kid when we learn that our landlord
is Frank Mahovlich, former hockey great with the Toronto
Maple Leafs. Soon Frank is receiving our autograph every
single month. What a lucky guy.
Once we’re settled, we get back to locating our spiritual
home. We are both looking for the same thing – a congregation
that resonates with our beliefs and our demographic.
Sunday turns out to be a beautiful spring day, so we decide
to walk to the modern new church we’ve heard much about.
