Chapter Forty-Two

“No kidding,” Gord chuckles. “Rev Davies sure is friendly.”
“Extremely!” I still can’t make heads nor tails of what just
            happened.
The following Sunday we decide to go back for round #2.
We’re actually recognized by a few people. We almost feel
famous. When the service is over several people practically beg
us to go for coffee-time down in the basement. We decline as
courteously as possible. After all the kissing is done, we leave
            the building.
“We really did give it a good chance, don’t you think?” I ask,
as we begin our walk home.
“Yes, we did Kelita.” Gord reaches for my hand then turns
to me. “But honestly I don’t think we’re feeling this place.”
“I know. You are so right. Oh well, it’s too bad because it is
            right up the street.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll find the right fit for us.” Gord is always
            so positive.
The following Sunday we decide to try another direction.
We walk the other way and barely 300 feet from our front door
            we discover another church.
“Do you know that in all my years of living in this area, I
have never seen this church?” I am astonished.
“Seriously?” Gord looks at me dumbfounded. “It’s only five
blocks away from your old place.”
               “I know!”
“How long did you say you lived in this area?”
“Hudson and I lived here for nine years!” I point. “And
look, it’s right behind the Post Office. We used to come here
all the time. Sometimes even two or three times a day. I know
            it’s crazy.”
               Crazy.
When we walk through the doors of Melrose Baptist we are
