Reason To Sing
Chapter Forty-Three
Change of Life
It is a given that Gord and I will be married. Our love simply
cannot be contained without an official union. As soon as my
divorce is finalized, we get right to it. Our engagement party
is set and just before guests begin to arrive, Gord spray-paints
a huge heart on the outside of the dilapidated green garage at
the back of our property. I am thrilled. He actually does have a
romantic bone in his body!
Everyone (including our church family) is excited to hear
our news. We do receive some counsel from Pastor Duguid
who expresses concern about our living situation. He feels
that, as Christians, we shouldn’t be living together before we’re
married. Well, we’re a little too late for that and moving into
separate places for a few months isn’t practical. But, out of
respect for God and our church, we decide to abstain from sex.
Yes, you read that right. No sex. None. Zippo.
An interesting exercise since we share the same bed. But
we believe our desire to do the right thing in the eyes of God
will help us find the discipline and strength we need. I’m sure
some might think we’re more than a little crazy, so we keep this
secret to ourselves. Since beginning our new faith journey, I’m
sure our friends already think we’ve gone over the edge. Most
of them don’t really understand.
Since this is my second marriage, I’m not needing a
traditional wedding. However, this is Gord’s first. I know he
wants to be greeted by his bride in a flowing white gown. And
so does his mother. He’s an only child so I acknowledge there
