RECLAIM YOUR DIGITAL GOLD

                          Chapter Summary

As you can see, social media is much more than just
connecting with friends and family and watching funny
viral videos. It is a driving force that is changing society
and how we interact and connect with one another. But
it has also become a place where any or all members
of the public, including potential employers, can critically
observe and see everything we do. As a result, the very
concept of privacy is being questioned.
There are numerous benefits to using social media. We
can use it to learn new skills and establish ourself as
an authority, demonstrate empathy, kindness, and social
awareness, to name a few. Businesses can use it to
attract new customers and keep current ones.

However, these engaging platforms contribute to habit-
changing patterns by providing us with a steady daily
dose of content that is so addictive that we can spend
hours on them without realizing it.

Thousands of data points are collected on us while we
surf and browse in order to create the ultimate profile
for advertisers, based on behavioral data, engagement
data, personal data, attitude data, and preference data.
Such user characteristics have become so valuable that
business marketers can create hyper-targeted marketing
campaigns to very specific target audiences, down to
          their specific needs and desires.
