RADICAL LOVE
In this, she was certainly one with the Apostle Paul in his testimony in
Philippians 4:12 (KJV):
“I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere
and in all things I am instructed to be full and to be hungry, both to
abound and to suffer need.”
Also in Philippians 1 (KJV):
“…So now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by
life, or by death.”
Chapter 5:1 concludes this session with the heavenly Bridegroom
assuring her that He has heard the longings and yearnings of her heart—
and has granted the request to make her His own garden. He is delighted
by what He is now able to gather there because it is the fruit of His own
labour within.
Notice the use of the possessive pronoun “my”—my sister, my bride,
my myrrh, my balsam, my honeycomb, my honey, my wine, my milk. It
is all of His work that she is offering back to Him.
She has been transformed—from the immature and fearful follower we
met in the early chapters of this book—into one whom the Lord can
now offer as a living sacrifice for others to feed upon. This is the
privilege reserved for those who seek to enter into the deeper things of
the Lord by spending quality time with Him, yielding and walking in
obedience to His Spirit. We receive from Him—and then give of Him.
