believers; concubines are those still under the influence of other
worldly loves, which take precedence over the Lord in their lives; and
immature virgins are new believers. All have a relationship with the
Lord but have not yet attained the level of devoted singleness of heart
in their love relationship with Him—like the one between the
Bridegroom-King and the Shulamite.
Verse 9 emphasises the uniqueness and favour held by those who allow
the Holy Spirit to do a full work of grace within them. He gives them
His all, and people recognise this and really notice how much beauty
and blessing it produces.
“Look at you now,” He declares in verse 10. She is arising and shining
because His glory has come and is rising upon her as the Dayspring of
the dawn.
In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1, verse 78, Jesus is referred to as the
“Dayspring from on high.” The word dayspring means the morning
light, the aurora, the rising of the sun. Jesus is referred to in this manner
because He embodies the light of the Gospel of the Kingdom of
Heaven, bringing benefit to people on earth.
As God’s children, we are called to progress from glory to glory in
Christ. Then people will be drawn to this beautiful light, which brings
eternal life. The verse goes on to describe her as being: “Fair as the
shining moon, bright and brilliant as the sun in all its strength.”
