CHAPTER 1

          M
y older sister woke me up early at 7:00 a.m. She opened

the curtains, letting out a bright, yellow, and orange light
from the sun. It was going to be a normal school day, but

this morning made me feel like it was going to be different.
“Ugh, Myra, why’d you wake me up?” I groaned, squinting my

          eyes from the light outside.

“Because we have to go to school, and I always have to be forced
to come here and wake you up,” Myra said.

I had no choice. If I kept lying on the bed for long, I knew my sister
would go to my Mom and snitch on me. And then my Mom would

barge into my room with an angry or annoyed frown and scold me for

not doing what I’m supposed to do. This is literally how life is in my
family. My Mom can be a worry, my Dad is kind of a boring guy, my

sister always acts like an annoying complainer, and I, the positive
overthinker, easily fall for things. I feel like my family and I inherited

these personalities from our past ancestors and family members. If that
          even makes sense.

Anyway, I got ready for school in my new outfit for the day. A

light–blue baggy jeans with a common white shirt. My Dad wanted to
do my hair for the school week because he thinks he doesn’t do

anything much for me anymore. So yesterday, he French braided my
hair, leaving messy leftover parts on top of my head and curly bangs in
