THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
I immediately snapped out of it, took out my books for the first two
classes, and turned back to my friends.
“Hey, Nellie,” I waved, looking at both her and the guy.
Nellie placed her arm around the guy’s shoulder, smiling. “Hey,
guys, this is Chris. He’s the new student here—and my new friend.”
I turned to Jayson, and he looked at me. We gave each other an Oh
really look.
You see, Nellie is a cool, sweet girl. She’s the type of person who
loves to chit–chat about things—mostly to gossip, though—and she has
a bunch of friends because of that.
But anytime a new person comes to her neighborhood, school, or
just anywhere she’s in, she, of course, gossips about them. She
normally doesn’t bother to look, talk, or even be nice to the new person.
And all her friends came to her and befriended her first. So, her saying
he’s her new friend kinda sounds weird—and doesn’t make sense.
Unless Chris went to her first.
Anyway, Jayson and I turned back to Nellie and the guy. I stared
right at Chris first.
“I’m Kandis. Nice to meet you.”
Chris extended his hand to mine, and I shook it gently.
“Nice name, Kandis.”
But when I shook his hand, it felt so warm. He squeezed my hand,
and for some reason, I didn’t complain or pull away.
