THAT WASN’T THE PLAN
“Uncle Eddie!” I ran to him, kind of interrupting his conversation
with my mom.
I realized I actually was, because Mom suddenly gave me a
troubled look.
Uncle Eddie turned to me, opening his arms wide. “Ohh, my
favourite niece!”
But I didn’t care—I hugged him as tightly as I could. “I missed
you so much!”
“Me too. I mostly came here to see and visit you. And gosh, you’ve
grown so big, Kandis!”
He pulled back from the hug, though I still kept my hands around
him. “How long are you staying here this time?”
“Oh, Kandis, you know I visit for about three days when I come
by—it’s the same this time too!”
I groaned. I really didn’t want him to stay that short. Whenever
Uncle Eddie is here, it’s always a fun time. He usually takes Myra and
me to Six Flags, big cities, or even car trips to, like… the woods! I
could never regret having him as my uncle.
“But three days isn’t enough—at least half a week?” I begged him.
“Sorry, Kandis, but no can do.” He shook his head slowly. “I’ve
got a lot of business work to catch up on—and with your dad too. That’s
another reason I came. But don’t worry, we’re still going to have fun!”
I sighed and agreed. I could totally understand Dad and Uncle
Eddie having serious work to do. Dad is always working anyway, and
he sometimes asks Uncle Eddie to help. That’s even why I can say
