THAT WASN’T THE PLAN

“Uncle Eddie!” I ran to him, kind of interrupting his conversation
          with my mom.

I realized I actually was, because Mom suddenly gave me a

          troubled look.
Uncle Eddie turned to me, opening his arms wide. “Ohh, my

          favourite niece!”
But I didn’t care—I hugged him as tightly as I could. “I missed

          you so much!”
“Me too. I mostly came here to see and visit you. And gosh, you’ve

          grown so big, Kandis!”

He pulled back from the hug, though I still kept my hands around

Uncle Eddie is here, it’s always a fun time. He usually takes Myra and

me to Six Flags, big cities, or even car trips to, like… the woods! I

could never regret having him as my uncle.
“But three days isn’t enough—at least half a week?” I begged him.

“Sorry, Kandis, but no can do.” He shook his head slowly. “I’ve

got a lot of business work to catch up on—and with your dad too. That’s
another reason I came. But don’t worry, we’re still going to have fun!”

I sighed and agreed. I could totally understand Dad and Uncle
Eddie having serious work to do. Dad is always working anyway, and

he sometimes asks Uncle Eddie to help. That’s even why I can say
