CHAPTER 3
I
n History class, I was sitting in the middle with Jayson, since he
was my partner for most classes. Anytime we were in the same
class, I’d always be his partner—whether for projects or
assignments.
Our substitute, Mrs. Grenade, said we should just work on our last
project before the weekend started. It was a two-partner project about
the study of historical figures.
I turned to Jayson, who was taking out the long white construction
paper we were going to do our project on.
“So, what historical figure are we doing?”
Jayson opened his laptop, searching for a figure. “Hmm… maybe
William Shakespeare?”
“The English playwright, poet, and actor?” I tilted my head. “I
thought you didn’t like English people.”
He chuckled under his breath. “Yeah, but he writes the best stories
that I like.”
“What type of stories?” I glanced at his face.
Jayson leaned in, lowering his voice like a whisper. “Romeo and
Juliet. You know, like… romance.”
I was a bit confused when he leaned so close to my face. I could
already feel his breath on my skin. Well, I mean, Jayson can be an over-
friendly, so-close-to-loving type anyway. His actions can seem like
