CHAPTER 3

          W
hen I reached, I went straight to my room without saying

anything to my mom and shut the door. “Oh my god,
                         that was so embarrassing!”

My mom heard me from downstairs and said, “Honey, are you
          okay?”

“Uh, yeah, I’m fine.” I just hugged my puppy and started talking

to him. Then I heard my phone ringing and picked it up—it was Jessie.
               “Hey, Aliss!”

“Jessie, you wouldn’t believe what happened!” I exclaimed, still
          embarrassed.

“What is it—wait, did you start your period?”

“What? No!” I started talking so fast about what happened, I was
probably faster than Eminem’s rapping songs.

“Okay, girl, chill. He’s just a guy in our class. Maybe cute, but
don’t let him get in your head, okay? But… do you have a crush on him

          or something?”
               “No!”

I ended the call, pressing the phone to my chest. “No, it’s still in

my head!” My thoughts twisted against me. Maybe I do have a cru—
          no!

“No way I’m into him. He’s literally the new student, and… ew!”
