CHAPTER 4

          W
hen we finished, Jessie owed us some money from a

carnival we went to and paid for all the food and rides.
So instead of giving it to us, she decided to pay for our

drinks—and boy, did she owe herself a lot of money! It cost her $40
for the food and drinks. But what happened next was even weirder.

I saw Caelum again. What is he doing here? Was he following me?

He caught me, and I’m pretty sure he noticed I was staring—well,
          looking at him.

Caelum came close and leaned toward my face. “You better stop
          staring at me.”

“I wasn’t staring; I was looking at the menu,” I said with a bit of

          hesitation.
“Really?” He was annoying me. Can’t he just give up and leave?

Like I just said—I wasn’t looking at him.
“Which part of ‘I wasn’t looking at you’ don’t you understand?” I

crossed my arms, looking bold. Luckily, he just sighed quietly and left.
Then Celia started to give me looks, and I hated it.

“Ooh, Aliss, you have a crush…”

“Uh, no—I don’t,” I muttered under my breath.
“Oh, really?” Great, now Celia was annoying me. I really didn’t

think I had a crush on him.
