IT WAS NEVER JUST SUMMER
touching how much he was helping me. He rang the doorbell, and Mom
came out, surprised and confused.
“Oh, hello?”
“Hi, I’m Caelum, Aliss’s classmate. Um, so Aliss was going for a
walk, and she ran into me. Then she started feeling dizzy. I helped her
get here, and I think she’s still in pain.”
I was so tired and sleepy that I couldn’t see or hear properly what
was happening.
When I woke up, I felt so… weird. It was morning, which meant I
had slept through the entire evening. I got ready and went downstairs.
I saw Mom in the backyard, gardening and watering the new plants and
her gray birch.
“Hey, Mom.”
“Oh, hey, honey! How was your sleep?” She stopped and turned to
me.
“Oh, just… odd.” I shrugged as my headache started to fade.
“Yeah, sorry—I gave you some medication for your head and body,
but you’ll be okay in no time.”
“Med–medicine?” I raised both eyebrows.
“Yes. You don’t remember?” I shook my head, and she told me the
whole story from last night.
“Wait—so I felt tired and dizzy?”
“Yes, but it’s gone now,” Mom said with a small smile.
Since it was Saturday, I did my chores and then sat comfortably on
the couch.
