THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL

               “I don’t know, Uncle Eddie… there’s a fifty percent chance it
won’t work. But the thing is, I want both of them, not just one.”

“You want to… date both of them?” Uncle Eddie said it like a

          statement.
It seemed he didn’t understand what I meant about the broken

          relationship I’m going through.
“No, I want them back in my life. Maybe not as love partners, but

          just… friends.”
I kind of hate saying that. Because I wanted to date someone, at

least before this school semester ends. I really think I have that

experience of being someone’s own. But I don’t even have my one and
only friend anymore, nor a partner. So I have nothing.

“Well, Kandis, if you really want those two back—go get them.”

He said it like it meant something.
It gave me a little hope, though. But I needed more than just hope.

“How? Jayson has probably planned on ignoring me now, till
          school ends.”

“What about that crush of yours?”
I sighed—not tired, not relieved, but unbothered. “Uncle Eddie,

Chris is perfectly fine with me. We’re friends, and we literally talk all

the time. I like him, but Jayson’s kind of making me change my mind.”
“Kandis, don’t let that get to you. If you really like that guy, it’s

fine. Jayson departed from you because he wanted you to know he
doesn’t want you to put a friendship relationship between a love
