ear diary, I was this close to winning—until a red car sped
past me and claimed the finish line like it had wings.
“Ugh, seriously?” I muttered, annoyed. “I could’ve had
that… if that flashy red show-off didn’t swerve in like he owned the
track.”
Still confused by how it happened so fast, I checked the
leaderboard. His name was Prince_Icondash101. Yeah, don’t even ask.
That’s probably the weirdest name I’ve ever seen for a guy.
I didn’t dwell on it too long, though. I shut the game off and headed
downstairs for dinner.
It’s just me, Dad, and Mermie—my little rescue pup. We’re not
exactly a big family, since Dad never talks about Mom. Every time I
bring her up, he either changes the story or gives me that same line:
“You’ll understand when you’re older.”
But I’m fifteen now. When exactly does ‘older’ start?
Anyway, I decided to leave that aside and just eat my dinner. While
I was at the table, eating my elegant spaghetti carbonara, Dad was at
the stove dishing out his food.
He turned to me, holding his plate, and said, “So, the school called
me this morning.”
I dropped my fork.
Uh-oh. Did he find out about me cheating on the science test?
