them  replied.  They  rode  off,  disappointed.  There
          weren’t  any  other  Black  folks  around—not  in

          Mississauga, anyway.

          One  day,  we  went  for  a  long  drive  northwest  of

          Mississauga. Suddenly, we entered into a little village

          called Orangeville. We went into a small store, and all
          eyes  were  on  us.  We  asked  for  two  sodas  but  were

          completely ignored. The year was about 1974—the first

          time I had ever been discriminated against. So, we got
          back in our car and left—real fast.


          All was going well until one day, my employers had a
          big fight. The husband pulled a gun on his wife. I don't

          know if it was loaded or not, but we were so scared, we
          decided to leave—with the wife begging us not to go.

          We had to call the cops. For some reason, he did not get

          charged.

          We  left  and  found  an  apartment  in  Toronto.  Life  in

          Toronto  was  very  interesting.  Before  climate  change,
          winter was terrible. There would be mountains of snow

          everywhere.  We  would  hear  of  whiteouts  up  north,
