RADICAL LOVE
The Shulamite is now being likened to a stately palm tree, and as we
take a brief look at some of the characteristics of this particular tree, we
can draw some important lessons. These trees are usually very straight
in stature and can be very tall, reaching, in some cases, a height of 30
metres.
As children of God, we are royal members of His household. We are
totally and unconditionally loved and accepted, and we belong to Him.
He has given us the authority to defeat every work of darkness.
Consequently, irrespective of how the world—or even our natural
families—define us, God is the lifter of our heads, and we can walk in
humble confidence. Wasn’t Jesus a simple carpenter? Yet, look at His
true pedigree—He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!
To be straight is an illustration of honesty, integrity, and no
compromise. I have mentioned this previously, but when something is
depicted as being taller than average, it often refers to the ability to see
things from a heavenly perspective, with the wisdom of God.
A further interesting fact about palm trees is that they can grow in every
type of habitat—from rainforests to deserts. This reminds me of St.
Paul’s words in Philippians 4:12–13 (NKJV): “I know how to be
abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have
learned to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
