RADICAL LOVE

God loves us as a Bridegroom loves His Bride—He is jealous to

possess all of us and will stop at nothing in pursuit of our hearts. To
describe love’s jealousy as “unyielding as the grave” is a very strong

metaphor indeed. Once a body has been buried in the grave, it is not
          coming back!

The Lord’s grace woos us into a place of desiring Him, but the desire

to be in complete union means that every other lover in our lives has to
bow to His preeminence. This is a very painful yet necessary process

for the true Bride of Christ, because the Lord must disentangle us from
the false sense of security we place in people and worldly, man-made

structures and systems. There is no other way to truly know His
steadfastness, faithfulness, and dependability as our Bridegroom King.

Finally, in verse 7, we see that when we immerse ourselves in the ocean

of His love—when we truly know Him and are convinced of His
goodness—we will totally trust Him and be invincible against external

negative influences. Psalm 9:10 (NIV) says: “Those who know your
name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who love

          you.”

Neither rivers of pain, nor persecution, nor indeed any adverse
circumstances we may have to face will be able to extinguish the

mutual love between the Bride and the Bridegroom. Also, as the second
half of the verse says, we will discover that there is nothing superior to

this gift of Love, and every sacrifice we make to obtain it will

eventually not even seem like a sacrifice anymore.
