do, but we won’t have the necessary courage to execute the works of
the Father because of persecution and opposition.
We need to be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit so that we will
be fully equipped to stand as Sons of God—Kings and Priests—in the
days ahead.
Notice the verse goes on to say that Jesus’ passion for us is stronger
than the chains of death and the grave. I personally prefer how passage
8:6 is expressed in the NIV, which states:
“…for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.”
It is a jealous love, which will stop at nothing until every false lover in
our lives has been burned up and destroyed, and He becomes our “All
in all.” In James 4:5 (TPT), it reads: “Does the Scripture mean nothing
to you that says, ‘The Spirit that God breathed into our hearts is a
jealous Lover who intensely desires to have more and more of us’?”
In Exodus 34:14 (NIV), God says, 'the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is
a jealous God.' His love for us truly is beyond human understanding.
There are simply no words to fully express the love God has revealed
to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Even when great hymn writers such
as Wesley and Newton move us to tears by their words—
“Love divine, all loves excelling,” and “Love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all”—they are still only scratching the
surface of the height and depths of God’s love for His people.
