          6 “Do not gaze at me because I am deeply tanned,[I have worked in]

          the sun; it has left its mark on me. My mother’s sons were angry with
          me; They made me keeper of the vineyards, But my own vineyard (my

          complexion) I have not kept.”
          7 “Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, Where do you pasture your

          flock, Where do you make it lie down at noon? For why should I be like

          one who is veiled Beside the flocks of your companions?”


          8 “If you do not  know  [where your  lover  is],  O you fairest  among

          women, Run along, follow the tracks of the flock, And pasture your
          young goats By the tents of the shepherds.”

                    here is so much intimacy in these verses, as the Shulamite

                    discovers how lovely her Beloved is. As we read, we can see

                    that she is becoming increasingly attracted to Him and desires
          to  know  Him  better.  When  we  begin  to  bask  in  the  loveliness  and

          presence of Jesus—with no agenda but to simply sit and rest in His
          presence—we  too  begin  to  desire  more.  His  name  is  like  ointment

          poured out.


          Ointment is used for the purpose of healing. Jesus can heal our deepest
          hurts  because  His  love  and  compassion  reach  into  the  innermost

          recesses of our being, where pain and sorrow are washed away. This
          speaks of the cross, where He was poured out for us. Isaiah 53 tells us

          that He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for
