•  Hyperbilirubinemia [Jaundice] may develop due to hemolysis of

                              RBCs.



                          •  Endothelial damage and fibrin deposition cause impaired liver

                              function which result in increased hemorrhagic necrosis, which,

                              characterized by right upper quadrant tenderness or epigastric

                              pain nausea  & vomiting. Also it leads to elevation of liver

                              enzymes.

                       3.  Low platelets count: -

                          This due to systemic capillary endothelial cell damage,  which

                          activates platelet adherence and fibrin deposition.


                   HELLP syndrome signs: -



                       •  Epigastric pain.                    Nausea & vomiting.

                       •  Headache.                                  Malaise.

                       •  Jaundice.                                  Hematuria.

                   Maternal effects:


                   Maternal mortality 10% to 24%. This is due to pulmonary edema, renal or


                   hepatic failure, myocardial infarction, or cerebral Hemorrhage.


                   Fetal effects:


                   Perinatal  mortality 35% to 65%. Due to placental insufficiency,


                   intrauterine growth retardation, Prematurity and abruptio placenta


                   Signs & symptoms: -

                   1.  Hypertension: -

                       •  The diastolic Bl. pressure is 150 mmHg or greater on any one

                          occasion.
