Acute Gonorrhea
Clinical picture
1- Urethritis. Frequency and burning micturition. Pus may be milked from the
urethra. If a periurethral abscess forms, it is felt through the anterior vaginal wall
as a small tender indurated mass.
2- Bartholinitis. Pain in the region of the gland with oedema of the labium major,
the gland is enlarged, and tender and abscess formation may occur. The opening of
Bartholin duct may appear as a bright red spot.
3- Vulvovaginitis. This occurs in children. There is a purulent vaginal discharge,
vulval soreness and pruritus. The inguinal glands may be enlarged and tender.
4- Pelvic infection. There are symptoms and signs of acute salpingitis or pelvic
peritonitis in severe cases.
