                   Chronic Gonorrhoea

                   Clinical Picture

infection may remain chronic in the urethra, cervical canal or bartholin gland.

Gonococci reaching the tubes die and disappear within 4 weeks after infection and

are replaced by other organisms as e. coli, especially form the bowel. The clinical

picture depends upon the site of infection so there may be evidence of chronic

urethritis, chronic cervicitis or chronic salpingo- oophoritis. The bartholin gland

may be enlarged and tender, or it may be the site of recurrent abscess or cyst

formation. In some cases(50%) chronic gonorrhoea is asymptomatic.

                   Diagnosis

the diagnosis is proved by demonstrating the gonococci in smear and culture.

                   Culture is essential for diagnosis.

                   Treatment

large doses of penicillin are given and any residual lesion is treated according

to its nature, e.g. cauterization for chronic cervicitis.

                   Herpes Genitalis:

The herpes simplex virus causes herpes infections, which are recurrent infection.

C/P: The primary episode of herpes genitalis is characterized by the development

of single or multiple blisters like vesicles, which usually occur in the genital area

and sometimes affect the vaginal walls, cervix, urethra, and anus. The vesicles may
