Prevention:
Effective prevention and control of STDs is based on the following concepts:
1. Education and counseling for people at risk on ways to practice safer sexual
behavior
2. Identification of infected, a symptomatic individual and of people with
symptoms of STD who are not likely to seek diagnostic and treatment
services
3. Effective diagnosis and treatment of people with an STDs
4. Evaluation, treatment, counseling, and education for individuals who are the
sex partners of people with an STD
5. Pre-exposure vaccination of individuals at risk for vaccine-preventable
STDs
