Oatmeal Crisps

                                    Ingredients:

                                    1 cup shortening
                                    1 cup brown sugar
                                    1 cup granulated sugar
                                    2 eggs
                                    1 tsp vanilla
                                    1 cup chopped nuts
                                    1½ cups sifted flour
                                    1 tsp salt
                                    1 tsp baking soda
                                    3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

                                    Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars. Add
                                    vanilla and eggs. Beat well. Sift together flour, salt
                                    and soda. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in rolled
                                    oats and nuts. Mix well. Form dough in rolls 1 - 1½"
                                    thick. Wrap in waxed paper, foil or clear plastic
                                    wrap Chill. Slice cookies about ½" thick. Bake on
                                    ungreased cookie sheet at 350°F for 10 minutes or
                                    until lightly browned.

                                    This recipe was given to by my mother-in-law,
                                    Maurine Schulz. She sometimes adds chocolate chips.
                                    These cookies are very crispy and delicious.
