A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Students,
The transition to high school is a significant step in the lives of young
people at Rich Township High School. Under normal circumstances,
students would have a change to get oriented to their new environment
and teachers. The pandemic has altered the welcoming experience for
our newest raptors this year.
For some Freshmen, engaging in a remote environment has been
more challenging than normal. District 227 recognize the need provide
more support to this group of students to ensure a successful transition
into high school. Rich Township High School now offers the Freshmen
Remote Assistance Program (R.A.P.).
The school’s staff has identified a group of students to participate in the first cohort of
R.A.P. These students report to school to engage in remote learning under the supervision
of support staff. Students are monitored to ensure that they are logging into classes and
completing assignments. During the students’ Raptor Time, they are connected to live
tutors to provide additional assistance in clarifying content for students. Teachers also
meet with students during their office hours. The purpose of the program is to provide a
structured environment with adult supervision to keep students focused on their classes
and work.
Freshman student, Taylor Wilson, has been attending R.A.P. for two weeks. “I like it because
I can focus better on my work here than I was at home,” said Wilson. Since coming to the
program her grades have gradually improved.
Sincerely,
Larry D. Varn, II
Principal
