Department of
Mechanical Engineering
Introduction
The department was founded in 1965 [formerly known as the National Kaohsiung Institute of Technology Mechanical
Engineering Department]. The department offers programs leading to bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. The
number of graduate alumni has reached more than 20,000, and many outstanding talents have been cultivated for various
industries. It is an important promoter of the advancement of Taiwan's machinery industry, and is widely sought after by
young students in various types of enrollment.
The faculties have obtained doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from well-known universities. They have
professional literacy and rich practical experience. In addition to their high enthusiasm and research spirit, they also signed
production and education cooperation cases with a number of multinational companies. The funding and various research
results are quite fruitful.
In addition to basic equipment for teaching experiments and special research, the Ministry of Education subsidizes our
establishment of high-quality learning environments by building core equipment such as Micro Electro Mechanical
Systems (MEMS), precision machinery, smart manufacturing and smart materials facilities.
Programs
The department has 38 full-time faculties, all of whom have obtained doctoral degrees in mechanical related fields. At
present, there are about 1,300 students study in the department which including around 1000 students study for
undergraduate program, around 250 students study for Master Program, and around 50 students for Doctoral program.
Undergraduate Program
To cultivate pragmatic mechanical professionals with practical capabilities, innovative research and development and
problem solving. Recruited total about 300 new students per academic year which including around 260 students for Four-
Year program, and around 40 students for Two-Year Technical program.
Postgraduate Program
To cultivate high-level mechanical professionals with practical ability, innovative research and development and problem
solving. Recruited total around 120 new students per academic year which including around 80 students for Master
Program, around 30 students for In-Service Master program, and around 10 students for Doctoral program.
Research Topics
The research topic of the university is as follows:
ü The course are divided into Mechanical Design, Material and Energy Engineering, Automated Electromechanical
Integration, and Intelligent Manufacturing.
ü Planning meets the needs of developing industries (such as smart manufacturing courses).
ü Practical topic course: Let students learn from practice, combining academic and practical skills.
ü Encourage students to participate in vocational skills examinations and Off-campus internship.
The research topic of the postgraduate is as follows:
ü Research areas are divided into three groups: Design and Manufacturing, Optical Machine Control, Materials and
Energy.
ü Teaching focuses on the integration of theory and practice applications.
ü Research the needs of popular industrial development (such as nanotechnology, smart manufacturing, smart robots,
and green energy).
ü Inviting scholars from emerging fields and industry experts to bring new ideas to inspire students through thematic
discussion courses.
