Department
of Mold and
Die Engineering
Introduction
Department of mold and die engineering is the only department founded specifically for the development of
the mold and die industry. We offer a variety of academic programs including Ph.D., M.S., four-year & upper
two-year B.S., and five-year associate degrees.
Our features are vertical integration and diversified development of the mold/die technology. Especially, we
focus on the vertical integration of mold/die manufacturing from product design to quality test. We also
emphasize on applying the mold/die technology to the optoelectrical and bio-medical applications.
Teaching and Research
1.Design and manufacturing of high precision molds/dies 4.Fast modeling by forward/reverse engineering
2.Precision and micro forming of plastic and metals 5.CAD/CAM/CAE manufacturing
3.High precision molding for the optoelectrical industry 6.Surface modification technology for
extending mold/die life
Besides, our applied sciences program dedicated to three research aspects includes renewable energy
technologies, biomedical technologies, and system integrations:
1.Renewable energy technologies focus on the development of cleaning, high efficiency, and sustainable
energy especially on solar cells, fuel cells, wind power, and other emerging energy sources.
2.Biomedical technology requires an interdisciplinary training. Our goal is to educate the students with both
engineering skills and medical engineering skills.
3.System integration emphasizes on the development of industrial automation technology.
4.The professional fields of our faculty include “mold/die design and manufacturing”, “plastic and metal
forming processes”, “development of functional material, manufacturing and forming”, “development of
biomedical industry mold”, “intelligent manufacturing” and “green energy technology”
Alumni and career scope
We have more than ten thousand alumni playing an important role in the mold/die, mechanical, aerospace,
electronics, electrical, plastic, communication, and semiconductor industries. Every graduate has two to three
job opportunity on average.
Mold/die industry is reputed as “mother of the industry and the base of manufacturing.” It plays a key role in
the final mass production. Taiwan is the 7th largest mold/die manufacturer in the world in 2016. The annual
output value of mold/die is 538 billion NT dollars (30 NTD = 1 USD), while the contribution of each mold/die
is enlarged 10 to 50 times in the value of final products. For example, the mold/die for automobile and
consumer electronic market is around 200 billion NTD, but it produces more than 3,200 billion NTD parts and
components per year. The value of the final product is over one trillion NTD. With this huge market, the
demand for the mold/die professionals is always strong.
