P. 70
What did Jesus say when He gazed over Jerusalem? “O
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets, and stones
those sent to her; How often I wanted to gather your children
together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and
you would not have it! Behold, your house is left to you desolate:
and I say to you, you shall not see me, until the time comes when
you say, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”(Luke
13:34–35).
The fruitlessness of the fig tree was a reminder to the disciples
of the disobedience and fruitlessness of Israel. Despite His Word,
preaching, and miracles, Israel rejected Him and would soon give
Him over to be killed. Yet, no rebellion against God will succeed.
He punishes it. The withering of the fig tree illustrates this truth.
Also, Jesus knew the disciples had to continue His work in His
Name and people will also resist them in all forms and shapes.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, the impossible becomes possible in
the Kingdom of God. God soften the hardest hearts. He converts
the vilest murderer and even uses him in His service. He breaks
the greatest resistance and replaces it with a willingness to serve
Him.
The hyperbolic language of the mountain (Mountain of Olives) in
the sea (Dead Sea) should not be understood literally, but
indicative of what is possible in the Kingdom of God.
So, these words do not give us a free pass that we will receive
anything we ask for in general but assures us how unlimited our
prayers are for the success of God’s work in and for His Kingdom.
Work that till this day the Lord Jesus does through His Spirit
through our service!
God can change the impossible and make it possible as His work
is continuing on this earth and His Kingdom is coming.
