of happiness.” The expression “good news” in the Greek translation
of the Old Testament uses the same word used in Matthew 7:11
(good things/ what is good). Also used in Roman 10:15.
That which is good according to Isaiah 52:7 is not anything good in
general but refers to the salvation the Lord promised, and when Paul
uses the same expression in Romans 10:15 he thinks about salvation
who came through Jesus Christ. In just the previous verse he speaks
of the preaching of God’s Word the preaching of Christ. So, the
“good” he talks about is the preaching of Christ and salvation that
came in Him!
In Romans 8:28 Paul also sees the good in the light of the Old
Testament. Here again “good” does not mean any good, but the
good that God has determined for His children’s salvation and
sanctification, in the furthering of His Kingdom and the glorifying of
His name.
All of Matthew 5-7 is the teaching of Jesus and is called the Sermon
on the Mount. It is the proclamation of the King of the Kingdom of
Heaven. In Him, the Kingdom of God has come. And when we pray
for the Kingdom of the heavens, we will receive it. When we knock,
it will be opened when we seek, we shall find.
When Luke said we will receive the Holy Spirit He knew the Spirit is
the highest gift of God’s salvation. He is the first fruit of the fullness
we will receive when Jesus returns.
