Mukund Dada was the eldest male member of his generation in the family of Raja
Gukuldas - Diwan Bahadur Vallabhdas. I was about two years younger to him and
have fond memories of him. Even after my leaving Jabalpur we were in contact. I
remember him as an excellent student who graduated with several Gold Medals. He
was a man with a versatile personality. Besides being a successful businessman, he
was a lover of Hindi literature. He was a very good poet and a writer. Later on, in his life
when he started practicing law, he took only those difficult cases which even the senior
lawyers would not take and used to successfully plead them in the Jabalpur High
Court.
He weathered the storms in his life very bravely. I recall him being attacked in his
Ratlam factory by the labour union leader and a bunch of hooligans. Mukund Dada
defended himself very bravely and faced the adverse consequences with his strong
will power finally emerging as the victor.
It was a great shock to all of us when he left us so suddenly. I will always miss him - his
beautiful poetic greetings, his sharp wit and his affection for me.
