providing individuals with enhanced opportunities
for organizational contributions could also
affect performance directly. Thus, a definition
of performance should allow for variation
attributable to differences in traits measured in
selection programs, participation in training and
development programs, exposure to motivational
interventions and practices, and situational
constraints and opportunities (Harrison J. Kell
(2013)).
Directorate General of Customs is responsible for
customs control and security of export and import
affairs, collecting applicable customs duties and
combating restricted and prohibited smuggled
goods according to internationally recognized
rules, regulations and norms. In response to the fast
pace of global development, Directorate General
Customs has instituted its own modernization
program. Computerized customs procedures
are now provided at all customs entry and exit-
points of Oman to encourage and enable trade
facilitation. Oman Customs was established
in the early part of the 20th century and its
first headquarters premises were built in 1924.
Building on its pioneering status, Oman Customs
was one of the first administered organization
in the region. At that time Oman Customs was
the only resource for the State economy and its
organization was augmented by some experts
from abroad who helped to develop the customs
directorate and increase revenues. Recently,
the Directorate General of Customs witnessed a
huge shift towards development in quality and
quantity alike; this development helps to ensure
Oman’s strategic place in a globalized world
and mirrors the changes in world customs reform
that is taking place regionally and locally. The
Directorate General of Customs is implementing
various development modernization systems,
and is setting future plans for capacity building at
customs in the frame of applying the electronic
governance concept (Directorate General of
Customs (2021)).
