Marijuana drug

Customs officials at both the Muscat International Airport Customs
Department and the Rubia alkhali Customs Department managed
to seize two persons in possession of quantities of marijuana, which
they deliberately concealed in professional ways among their personal
luggage.
Smuggling: Article 143/5 of the Unified Customs Law (Failure to
declare goods imported or exported at the customs office without
a declaration of tonnage (competition). This includes the goods of
commercial nature that travelers bring with them).
Article 143/6 of the Unified Customs Law (goods bypassing the
customs office at entry or exit without being declared).
Punishment: Article 1/145 (If the concerned goods are subject to
high customs taxes “duties”, the penalty shall be a fine not less than
double the due customs tax “duties” and not more than double the
value of the goods, and imprisonment for a period of not less than a
month and not more than a year, or either of these two penalties.
- Article 5/145 (confiscation of smuggled goods or a judgment
equivalent to their value if they are not seized).

Alcoholic beverages

The Investigation and Risk Assessment Department was able to raid a
number of sites run by expatriate workers in the states of Seeb, Barka,
Al Musana and Al Suwaiq, and seized large quantities of alcoholic
beverages that were tightly hidden in warehouses and farms.

Smuggling: Article 7/143 of the Unified Customs Law (discovery
of goods not declared at a customs office placed in caches with the
intention of concealing them or in gaps or spaces that are not usually
designated to contain such goods).

Punishment: Article 1/145 (If the concerned goods are goods
that are subject to high customs taxes “duties”, the penalty shall
be a fine not less than double the due customs tax “duties” and
not more than double the value of the goods, and imprisonment
for a period of not less than a month and not more than a year, or
either of these two penalties.
- Article 5/145 (confiscation of smuggled goods or a judgment
equivalent to their value if they are not seized).
