• Packing of masks for distributions to the vulnerable and the elderly
• Donating their photographs to help the foreign migrant workers
• A community project such as #moreviralthanthevirus
• Working with the young and elderly on mental wellness initiatives
• The fundraising effort by students to help needy students and their families
• Food delivery for the needy elderly in HDB housing estates
• Developing online applications to source for and channel help to the community.
These initiatives by the NYAA and GAHA members created an impact. They made a difference to
those who needed help in the community.
On the international arena, the NYAA continued to provide leadership and support in the
following:
• The virtual St. Gallen Symposium 2020. H.E. Karin Keller-Sutter, Swiss Federal Councillor
and HE Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of
Singapore, jointly graced the virtual event.
• UN Environment South East Asian Youth Environment Network Innovation Breakthrough
Online Workshop organised by Singapore's UNE SEAYEN Youth Representative.
• The World News Day 2020 Webinar. The Straits Times, Singapore Press Club, Singapore
University of Social Sciences and National Youth Achievement Award Council jointly
organised the webinar on "How You Can Contribute during COVID-19?"
• The World Press Clubs Alliance for Climate 2020. The Straits Times, Singapore Press Club
and National Youth Achievement Award Council jointly submitted the video on
Singapore's response to climate change to Belgium.
• Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Voices of the Future 2020 Webinar. The APEC
Voices Leadership Council and National Youth Achievement Award Council jointly
organised the events for the youths from twenty-one members economies.
For the NYAA Junior Programme Pilot Project, The Butterfly Award, we are pleased that West
Spring Primary School and the Royal Rangers had completed the pilot programme despite the
COVID-19 restriction.
Funding for the NYAA programme remains a challenge. Over the years, we were fortunate to
receive strong support from donors such as the Singapore Totalisator Board. Yet, NYAA did face
some cash flow issues due to policies of deficit funding in the earlier agreement. In 2019, we had
resolved the issues and embark on fundraising events to build up the finances of the NYAA. The
NYAA Council has realised the need for forwarding financial planning and must strive for financial
sustainability. A fundraising committee has been formed to look into fundraising events. Once the
covid-19 pandemic eases, the Committee will raise funds from the foundations, businesses, well-
wishers and supporters. The Committee aims to organise fundraising events when mass physical
activities are permitted, targeting to raise $300,000 per year.
The NYAA will uphold our mission by serving the community through close partnership with
operating partners and stakeholders. In addition, GAHA and its members remain committed to its
mission of serving the community beyond Gold. We are very proud that these young leaders
contributed and are embracing a difference in our society despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
