PRESIDENT
Representative Thomas West
Canton- Ohio House District 49
Representative West is the first African American from Stark County to be elected to the
Ohio General Assembly. He won his first term in 2016 and has been re-elected twice.
Having served on the Canton City Council for 13 years, Representative West uses his
public service experience to give a voice to the needs and problems of common, everyday
people and local community-based organizations.
Representative West is a small business owner and a licensed social worker, having
earned bachelor’s and master’s of social work degrees from the University of Akron. He
also earned a degree in business administration from Mount Union College.
He and his wife have two children and reside in Canton.
