                                               UNCERTAINTY CONTINUES
News and views – August 2021
 ecstatic we were when the Alert Level moved to 1 and we were able to hold it on 4 July.
Last year we were unable to
hold the Vintners’ Lunch or our Annual Street Appeal due to Covid-19. This year we enjoyed connecting with our community again through both events
and are extremely thankful
for the continued support and overwhelming generosity shown.
Another impact we have felt is the shortage of nurses in New Zealand. With travel restrictions in place, fewer nurses from overseas have filled the gaps in our national health workforce.
I would like to acknowledge our dedicated nursing team for all their hard mahi and commitment to Te Omanga Hospice during this time.
We rely on the generosity of people like you to help fund our free specialist palliative care service to the Hutt Valley. Each year we need to raise nearly $3 million to bridge the gap between Government funding and what it costs to run our service on a day- to-day basis.
Your kind donations help make a very real difference to people in need of our care. We are truly humbled by your generosity and thankful for your continued support.
 While we enjoy relative freedoms from Covid-19 in New Zealand compared with the rest of the world, the pandemic continues to create havoc and uncertainty for many. For Te Omanga, it affects our ability to raise funds to support our service, yet our essential care and support of the community continues no matter what Alert Level we are at.
Our nerves and resilience were tested in June when Wellington moved to Alert Level 2. It was just over a week to go until our biggest fundraising event of the year. With so much time and effort spent on planning the Vintners’ Lunch, you can imagine how
