RIIWHS204E-Work safely at heights





               PERMIT TO WORK – WORKING AT HEIGHTS
               Specifically, a permit to work – working at heights, should be issued for work:

                      On  any  structure  being  constructed,  demolished,  maintained,  repaired  or
                        cleaned where work is:

                o      Performed at or above 2 meters
                o      On a fragile, slippery or unstable surface

                o      Using equipment to gain access to an elevated level
                o      On a sloping surface on which it is difficult to maintain balance
                o      Involving an elevated work platform such as a cherry picker or scissor lift

                o      In close proximity, i.e. Within 2 meters, of an unprotected  edge

                o      In close proximity to a hole, shaft or pit



               EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

               Identifying equipment requirements will be based upon relevant information, including:

                      Site diagrams or sketches

                      Instructions issued by authorized organizational or external personnel

                      Material safety data sheets (MSDS)
                      Memos, Signage

                      Verbal or written and graphical instructions

                      Work bulletins
                      Work schedules, plans, and specifications



               Working at heights information may include:

                      Risk assessment
                      Checking hazard controls

                      Checking safety equipment

                      Checking and adjusting hazard controls
                      Preventing suspension trauma

                      Applying first aid for suspension trauma

                      Reporting all hazards, incidents, and injuries
