RIIWHS204E-Work safely at heights
SELECT AND INSTALL APPROPRIATE SIGNS AND BARRICADES
In order to reduce the risk of tools and equipment being dropped from a height and
causing injury to someone before starting your work, appropriate signs and barricades
can be erected to provide a visual indication of the work in progress and any warnings or
protection needed. Signs are a form of administrative control used to help reduce the
exposure of employees to fall hazards, often supporting other control measures.
When user notices some damage while checking harness and lanyards, the very next
step of a user is to put "Out of Service" tag and report it to the user's supervisor*
Danger signs, warning signs, prohibition and mandatory signs need to be selected and
displayed at appropriate locations. Warning signs are used to indicate a hazardous
situation which may result in an injury. However, danger signs should be used when
there is a possibility of death.
Signs can identify a safe means of movement between areas and to identify platforms:
Danger signs are used for warning
when a hazard or hazardous condition
is likely to be life -threatening.
Prohibition s igns specify behaviour or
actions which are not permitted. The
annulus and slash should be depicted in
red over the action symbol in black.
Prohibition Sign wording, if necessary,
is in black lettering on a white
background.
