HANDLING EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SAFELY

Correct manual handling is very important in your industry. There are many heavy or
awkward pieces of equipment that you will come across and handling them incorrectly
could cause injury or in severe cases, death. When you are moving or using materials
and equipment, always use safe manual handling techniques.

Some of the safe manual handling techniques to eliminate the risk are-

 Secure all tools and materials to prevent them from falling on people below.

 Use toe boards or guardrails on scaffolds to prevent objects from falling.

 Use debris nets or catch platforms to grab falling objects.

The user is responsible for locating materials and equipment and ensuring that they are
safely secured when you performing manual handling activity

Following considerations should be taken into account when undertaking handling of
materials and equipment.

 Size and weight of the materials/equipment

 Whether the material/equipment is dangerous or hazardous

 Where the materials/equipment need to go

 What method will be used to move the materials/equipment
