RIIWHS204E-Work safely at heights
KEEP FALL EQUIPMENT IN PLACE AND ADJUSTED
APPROPRIATELY FOR MOVEMENT DURING WORK
All fall protection equipment and safety system must be installed, kept in place and
regularly checked by a competent person. Safety equipment is your life line. At all times,
safety equipment needs to stay in place while you work. If you need to install a new or
different system, you must keep the old equipment in place until the new equipment is
ready to use. Equipment must be checked and where necessary adjustments made.
If you are moving from one safety system to another, you need to ensure that there is a
safe position where you have access to both so you can secure yourself to the new
system before freeing yourself from the old one. This will ensure that you are safe at all
points in time.
CHECKING SAFETY EQUIPMENT
When you are doing you checks, you will need to check that all parts of the safety
systems being used are still in place, working properly and have not been damaged in
any way during the work that is being conducted.
It is very important that if a worker were to fall while attached to a safety system, all
parts of that system are then checked and adjusted by a competent person to make sure
they are still in good condition and secure. In some cases, various parts of the system
may need to be replaced before any more work can continue.
You need to check that fall protection equipment is safely adjusted and that you are
using the correct safety equipment to suit the work as each part of the job i s finished.
SAFETY SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT
Safety systems and equipment are used to access work areas safely, to stop workers,
tools or materials from falling, or for safely arresting the descent of workers. These
items will need to be adjusted for any movement. This will form part of the regular
inspection routines.
