How To Count Points For
The Chow Chow Club, Inc. Awards
by Cathy Clapp
There is so much confusion on how to count points for our awards that I’m going to do my best to explain
it. Our system is entirely different from Dog News, Show Sight, The Canine Chronicle, and any other
magazines or systems that may be out there. Every year we see people bragging about their position in the
rankings in one of said magazines, and every year people are disappointed and upset to learn that where
they fell in the CCCI rankings wasn’t the same, and usually not remotely close. Dog News comes the closest
our system, but still isn’t the same. The only way to reliably know where your dog falls in the rankings
for the CCCI is by going to www.chowclub.org each month, usually about the middle of the month, and
see where your dog is. Every month our statistician, Lynette White, sends the results to be posted at www.
chowclub.org -> Breed Information -> Breed Statistics-> <year> Breed Standings -> <current month>. If
you are campaigning your dog, then it is up to you to check your numbers every month. If what you have
doesn’t match what our statistician has, then you can request your dogs record from our Statistician and
then it is UP TO YOU to find which show caused a mismatch and let her know in a timely manner. Come
January 31st of the following year the numbers are FINAL as the Awards Chair then has to start getting the
awards ready for the National. It takes time to get the Certificates, Plaques, and Awards Banquet Program
ready.
All awards for the Chow Chow Club, Inc. are based on Dogs Defeated. So, this means that Rule #1 is that
you NEVER get to count yourself, EVER. And that’s for every single award. And Rule #2? You can use
ONLY the OFFICIAL AKC RESULTS – NEVER THE SUPERINTENDENT’S. This has ALWAYS been the
only acceptable results used to count any points. AKC has the final word and that’s what we abide by. In my
term as Statistician, I saw a lot more awards revoked by AKC than I ever expected, including BOB wins,
BOS wins, and even Group placements. Superintendent results are NEVER accepted towards ANY CCCI
Award.
Top Ten Chows and Top Five Bitches
For the Top Ten Chows and Top Five Bitches you count all chows defeated by winning either Best of Breed
or Best of Opposite Sex. The Chow that wins BOB counts every Chow defeated. BOS counts every chow
of that sex defeated BUT if BOW is the same sex as BOS, then you also get to count the class chows of the
opposite sex. Here are some scenarios as examples:
Entry is 14 (5-4-(3-2)) (14 Total: 5 Class Dogs, 4 Class bitches, 3 Dog Specials, 2 Bitch Specials)
BOB is Dog Special – 13 Breed Points (5+4+3+2-1) BOB is Class Dog – 13 Points (5+4+3+2-1)
BOS is Bitch Special – 5 Breed Points (4+2-1) BOS is Class Bitch – 5 Breed Points (4+2-1)
WD is BOW WD is BOB/BOW
WB WB is BOS
BOB is Dog Special – 13 Breed Points (5+4+3+2-1) BOB is Class Bitch– 13 Points (5+4+3+2-1)
BOS is Bitch Special – 10 Breed Points (5+4+2-1) BOS is Class Dog – 7 Breed Points (5+3-1)
WD WD is BOS
WB is BOW WB is BOB/BOW
BOB is Bitch Special - 13 Breed Points (5+4+3+2-1) BOB is Bitch Special – 13 Points (5+4+3+2-1)
BOS is Dog Special – 7 Breed Points (5+3-1) BOS is Class Dog – 11 Points (5+4+3-1)
WD WD is BOS & BOW
WB is BOW WB
BOB is Bitch Special- 13 Breed Points (5+4+3+2-1) BOB is Class Dog– 13 Points (5+4+3+2-1)
BOS is Dog Special – 11 Breed Points (5+4+3-1) BOS is Bitch Special 5 Points (4+2-1)
WD is BOW WD is BOB/BOW
WB WB
Everything boils down to who defeated who. Follow the trail to last level defeated and all dogs in it
are counted. Just always remember to subtract yourself.
