For this show, the BOB (Specials Dog) winner received 14 Breed Points and the BOS (Class Bitch) received
a total of 10 Points. She was Best of Winners as well as BOS so she gets to count the 4 class dog points in
addition to all of the 7 bitch points, minus herself (4+7-1). The two Chows that were excused are shown in
the results but not included in the count of dogs in competition.
The Top Ten Breed, Top Ten All-Breed, and Top Five Bitches are all tracked by our statistician. However,
there is another award for our Owner Handlers (non-professionals) – the Top Ten Owner Handled. In
addition to Breed points accrued by winning BOB or BOS, OH points can also be earned by winning Best
of Winners, Winners Dog or Winners Bitch (All-Breed Points are not included). You still have to use AKC
results and submit your dog’s information to the Awards Chair. It is NOT up to the Awards Chair to track
you down and ask for them, or to do your work for you. It is up to each Owner Handler to keep track of their
shows and points and then submit them before the end of January the following year (the earlier, the better).
If you have questions about counting points, PLEASE ASK. I am always willing to help as is our Awards
Chair, Vickie C. Ireland, or our statistician, Lynette White. However, we are NOT here to do ALL of the
work for you. If you are seriously campaigning your dog, or planning to submit for the Owner Handled Top
Ten, then track your points month to month. Be diligent in checking the official counts posted to the CCCI
website so you can catch any discrepancies early on. Don’t look at a magazine ranking system and assume
you’ll be in the same place in ours because you’ll likely be disappointed. Don’t wait until the last minute
and expect someone else to do it for you. It’s really not that hard if you keep on top of it. And please, give a
shout out of Thanks! to Lynette or Vickie if you communicate with them. Both jobs are tedious and time-
consuming and very important to the club
I hope this has helped break down counting points for our rankings systems for you. It can be confusing at
first but like everything, practice makes perfect. Like showing, the more you do it the easier it gets. It
might seem like Rocket Science to start but there is a logical sequence to everything. So, give it a go.
Before you know it’ll be a piece of cake. And we’ll be here to answer your questions – as long as you
don’t wait until January 31st.
