Many times when attaching a line to an anchor point,
it is desirable to release the knot quickly. I frequently
use this quick-release hitch to tie up boats or to hang
food in a tree. The main caveat is the knot requires a
lot of spare rope.

1. Pass the rope around the
anchor point. Then make a
very long bight and use it
to tie a half hitch around
the standing part.

2. Pull the bight through
and snug this hitch up
close to the anchor.
