Documentation used to record the results of vehicle safety inspections and any rectification work, including
deferred defects, must be kept for any period of time defined by local legislative requirements, or where
these do not exist, at least 15 months.
Any vehicle designated out of service must be visibly marked or labelled to prevent use, indicating the date
and reason the vehicle is designated out of service. Only a qualified engineer may return a previously
designated out of service vehicle to active service.
4.0 Contracted Maintenance
Where the vehicle safety inspection function is contracted to a third party, Group Companies must ensure
there is a robust, periodic, assessment of vehicle safety inspection standards and that the requirements of
this Global Standard are upheld.
Note: Where Group Companies contract their maintenance this does not exempt any Group Company
from the requirements of this Global Standard or any content therein. Third party processes and paperwork
may be used but must comply with the requirements of this Global Standard.
5.0 Facilities, Tools & Equipment
Wherever possible, Group Companies must ensure that the equivalent type and specification of the testing
equipment used by the local or national enforcing authority is used.
The Engineering Director, or equivalent, at each Group Company must ensure that there is provision of the
correct and appropriate facilities, tooling and equipment. As a minimum this tooling and equipment must be
appropriate to cover all inspection items required under local legislative requirements, this may include, but
is not limited to:
Adequate lighting
Adequate under vehicle inspection facilities (pit or vehicle lifts/jacking stands)
A safe working environment
Headlight alignment equipment
Emissions testing equipment (where necessary)
Rolling road / roller brake testing equipment
All relevant safety equipment.
Note that provision may be interpreted as ‘access to’ in instances where internal facilities are not available
or limited in space and use.
6.0 Vehicle Safety Inspection Monitoring
Each Group Company must ensure there is a process of reporting and monitoring vehicle safety inspection
outputs as key performance indicators, this may include but is not limited to:
Defects identified per vehicle (as an average)
Defect clearance rate at source (as a percentage)
