Elizabeth Victoria Cronin achieved neither fame nor
                notoriety in her 43 year lifespan. She, like so many other
                children of Irish immigrants, spent her life working hard
                and contributing to her family’s advancement. She was re-
                vered by her family, friends, and neighbors. Her brother,
                Jeremiah Patrick Cronin, established “The Japan Tea
                                                Store” in Watertown in 1885
                                                which when moved to
                                                Waltham became “The Hub
                                                Department Store”  and then,
                                                under the leadership of his
                                                only child, Grover J. Cronin,

                                                became the famous “Grover
                                                Cronin” department store.
                                                Her older sister, Johanna,
                                                left the cotton mill to help           Waltham Free Press
                                                her brother Jeremiah, and             Monday, 16 July 1906
                                                then her nephew, Grover,
                                                build one of New England’s most successful
                    Lizzie’s Untimely Death Notice
                                                department stores.
