P. 6
Elizabeth Victoria Cronin achieved neither fame nor
notoriety in her 43 year lifespan. She, like so many other
children of Irish immigrants, spent her life working hard
and contributing to her family’s advancement. She was re-
vered by her family, friends, and neighbors. Her brother,
Jeremiah Patrick Cronin, established “The Japan Tea
Store” in Watertown in 1885
which when moved to
Waltham became “The Hub
Department Store” and then,
under the leadership of his
only child, Grover J. Cronin,
became the famous “Grover
Cronin” department store.
Her older sister, Johanna,
left the cotton mill to help Waltham Free Press
